August 25, 2003Barksdale will heading to
the state of Texas... 2003
Baltimore City Player of the Year, Maurice Barksdale, has decided to attend Junior
College for at least one year in order to open up his recruiting. He had a great
summer in the touraments he played with the Select program but in the end he decided
to forgo a few offers by D-1 schools and attend JUCO. Head Coach Steve Spurlin
from Blinn JC in Texas is excited about getting such a great player. We will keep
you up to date with his recruiting. Congratulations Maurice!!
August
18, 2003"Butts" gets National recognition... Local
player gets national recognition as Clark Francis and the HOOPSCOOP
people have "Butts" preseason ranked among the top 250 players in the
class of 2005. That is a feather in his cap and proves that he worked hard this
summer. If "Butts" continues to work hard on and off the court at Walbrook,
his stock can only rise during the next two years. Also listed as top 2005 players
was Lake Clifton's Paris Carter.
August 15,
2003The Big Fella will be heading to South Plains... Dennard
Abraham will be joining fellow Baltimore native, Davon Haskins, at South Plains
JC in Texas. Dennard originally gave a verbal comittment to St. Louis University
(Conference USA), but after not getting a proper test score to match his GPA,
Abraham had to decide of many JUCO's. Because he is a 6'8 260 pound big fella
with a soft touch, he was be recruited by a dozen Junior College from Florida,
Texas, Kansas, Wyoming, California and Oklahoma. He eventually decided on South
Plains after a conversation he had with his friend Davon (former teammate at Notre
Dame Academy).
August 13 2003Hatten signs with the
LA Clippers Baltimore
native Marcus Hatten signs with the LA Clippers. Marcus signed as a free agent
and will battle for time with the new look guard rotation with the Clippers. After
spreking with Hatten a few weeks back at a Baltimore Select open gym, where Marcus,
Todd Galloway, Keith Jenifer, Kenny Minor, Carmello Anthony and Tynell Dunkley
where among the Select alumni playing in gym, Marcus told us here that he was
close to signing. Congratulations Marcus!!!!
August
12, 2003Cheyenne Moore picks the Tigers... After
having a great summer with the Select program, Moore decides on the Clemson
Tigers. Tigers started to pursue soon after he completed a successful week
at the 2003 Adidas ABCD Camp in Teaneck, NJ. Assistant Coach Kevin Nickelbury
contacted us to let us know that they were ready to pursue Moore. The 6'6 wing
was the athletic, versitile player that Coach Oliver Purnell is looking for to
help build the Tiger program. Moore can play all three guard positions and can
give you eye catching, high flying dunks at anytime and can hit the three if you
don't play up on him. Great choice for both the Tigers and Moore. Congratulations
Cheyenne!!
August 3, 2003Baltimore Select veteran
chooses school Erin
Henderson, a dual sport athelete at Aberdeen HS, has chosen the University of
Maryland to play Football. He has been with the select program playing basketball
for three years but his passion is football. Erin plays both sports with the same
kind of enthusiasm and toughness. Erin was the key figure on this years Select
White team, that had an overall record of 17-3 this spring/summer. Erin will follow
in his brother's (EJ Henderson) footsteps by attending Maryland, but Erin plans
to excel as a quarterback not linebacker. He will play both basketball and football
his senior season with Aberdeen. Congratulations Erin!!!!
July
27, 2003The Big Time is over and Baltimore Select fared well...The
select team made it to the round
of 32 at the 2003 Adidas Big Time Tournament. It started out with 400 teams
fighting for the "Open" tournament championship and when pool play is
complete, 128 teams battle for the Crown of the summer...THE BIG TIME CHAMPIONSHIP! Cheyenne
Moore earned a spot on the Big
Time All Tournament Team. But throughout the week all of the players for the
2003 Select team put in work.
Gordon
Brown had an exceptional touranment leading team in scoring and "hustling"
in every game.
Darnell
Harris is one of the best "pure" shooters ever to put on a select uniform.
He showed his versatility by playing a litlle point a few games during the week
and he even showed off his athleticism with a few high flying dunks.
Justin
Drummond is one of the most versitile players that we had this summer because
he has the offense that we are looking for as a 6'6 guard, but he is also a underrated
and tough defender.
 Rising
Juniors Carroll Mitchell and Edward Tyson got a taste of what will be in store
for them in the 2004 campaign when they move into starting positions at the 1
& 2 guard spots.
Gordon
Chase came off the bench to give quality minutes offensivley and defensively in
every game. He is a tough player that can play inside and out.
Mitch
Guest is a go hard, gritty guard that led us throughout the week coming off the
bench for Carroll Mitchell giving us that bench strength at the guard spot along
with Edward Tyson.
Big
Brandon Albert, a 300 lb+, poward forward had an exceptional week playing alot
of minutes. He has a soft touch and quick feet that you would not expect at first
glance. Being a wide body he took down just about every rebound that came his
way. Brandon is a dual sport player; he is one the best footbal player in the
state of Maryland, currently getting recruited by Big East and ACC schools as
a denfensive lineman but after the week he had he may be thinking about Basketball
after his senior year.
On another note, the Baltimore Bombers fared
well at the Big Time by also finishing in the Round of 32 of the "open"
bracket. For an overview of scores fo the 2003 Big Time go to:

will not be able to join the team for Vegas, he has to buckle down and finish
summer school. We will miss him, but summer school is more important!! For
a list of when and who we play go to:
